Similar to other Al₂O but harder & denser for better resistance to abrasive grains, hard surfaces, fiber, & thread, fretting, cavitation, & particle erosion up to 1000°F (540°C).

Similar to Cr₂O₃ & resists impact or mechanical shock better with excellent low friction characteristics.
Resistant to most acids, alkali's, & alcohol up to 350°F (175°C).

Rc53. Moderate abrasive wear resistance. Soluble in alkali's &
H₂SO₄ but resistant to attack in many other environments.
Slightly Conductive. Static electricity does not build up on the coating surface.
Lowest in wear resistance of any of the oxide ceramics.
Do not use where exposed to temperatures higher than 1000°F (538°C).
Coatings of titania & coatings containing a significant percentage of titania undergo a phase change at temperatures higher than 1000°F (538°C), which causes embrittlement & cracking of the coating.

Ideally suited for severe thermal barrier applications & offers greater high temperature corrosion resistance against sodium, sulfur, & chlorine contaminants compared to ZrO₂8Y₂O₃ coatings.
Note 1: For applications where the good insulating properties of ZrOCaC are required & there is also a need for better abrasion resistance & lower emissivity, ZrOCaC can be mixed with AlO.
